109 Fugitives Arrested as FBI-Led Surge Sweeps Maryland, Delaware
Federal, state, and local authorities coordinated a three-week law enforcement surge to track down fugitives in Maryland and Delaware. It resulted in the arrests of 109 fugitives and the seizure of three firearms across the two states.
18 federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies participated in the operation, which was part of the broader Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Summer Heat 2.0 initiative.
“These are meaningful results,” said FBI Baltimore Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul. “This surge demonstrates the FBI’s unwavering commitment to public safety.”
Surge Ran from July 20 through August 5
The first week focused on Wilmington, Delaware, and resulted in 49 arrests. Suspects were wanted for various crimes including robbery, rape, child abuse, and sexual assault.
The second week focused on Baltimore, Maryland and resulted in 36 arrests for crimes including attempted murder, armed robbery, assault, and forcible rape of a minor.
The third week focused on Anne Arundel County, Maryland (just south of Baltimore), and resulted in 24 arrests for crimes including assault, rape, sexual abuse of a minor, and desertion of a child.
18 Agencies, One Operation
Law enforcement leaders praised the cooperation between units in finding and arresting the suspects.
“The results of this initiative make it clear that there is real power in joint law enforcement operations,” said U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Capital Area Regional Task Force Commander Patrick Brennan.
In addition to the FBI, USMS, and U.S. Attorneys Offices, participating agencies included Maryland and Delaware state and local police and the Maryland Natural Resources Police.
