U.S. Marshals Arrest Hundreds in World Cup Security Operations
The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) announced 383 arrests after a pair of operations in New Jersey to enhance public safety in the runup to and during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. New Jersey hosted eight World Cup matches, including the final.
Operation Red Card and Operation Forward Pressure participants included USMS with assistance from federal, state, and local law enforcement partners. The teams used intelligence analysis, investigative leads, and targeted enforcement strategies.
In total, 383 fugitives were taken into custody across the two operations including 107 known gang members, 48 convicted sex offenders, and 19 homicide suspects.
In addition, 28 illegal firearms and over $95,000 in cash were seized.
“Operations Forward Pressure and Red Card demonstrated our unwavering commitment to pursuing and maintaining relentless pressure on those individuals until they are taken into custody,” said Acting U.S. Marshal for the District of New Jersey Nicholas Ricigliano.
Arrests Include Alleged Chick-fil-A Shooter
Operation Forward Pressure targeted repeat violent offenders and gang members. An intelligence-driven operation was conducted to identify and arrest individuals who pose the greatest threat to public safety.
Among those arrested was 20-year-old Jaheed Fields who was wanted for murder, attempted murder, and other charges, after he allegedly opened fire at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Union, New Jersey, and shot six people, killing one.
Operation Red Card meanwhile worked to identify, locate, and apprehend convicted sex offenders who failed to comply with federal, state, or local registration requirements.
Nationwide Arrests
Operation Red Card also occurred in other cities that hosted World Cup matches.
153 arrests were made across metro Atlanta with 54 human trafficking victims identified.
And in the Seattle area, 17 suspects were arrested.
