Secret Service Agent Put on Leave After Undercover Video Alleges Security Lapses Involving VP Vance
A Secret Service agent was placed on administrative leave after a purported undercover video showed him discussing sensitive information about the protection details of Vice President JD Vance with a woman he met for a date.
In the video, the agent was seen and heard discussing the VP’s security detail, including the movement of VP Vance to and from his Naval Observatory home. The agent also showed the woman his badge after she asked to see it.
“This incident is under investigation, and the employee involved has been placed on administrative leave with his clearance suspended and access to agency facilities and systems revoked,” said Deputy Secret Service Director Matthew Quinn to NewsNation.” "The U.S. Secret Service deeply apologizes to the Vance family for this violation of their trust and privacy.”
The video was spearheaded by conservative activist James O’Keefe, whose staff is known for recording people undercover talking about sensitive or controversial issues.
Anti-Espionage Training Ordered
According to Deputy Director Quinn, additional anti-espionage training is being implemented.
“The US Secret Service has also issued an order for all personnel to retake the agency’s required anti-espionage training in order to ensure employees are aware of the threats posed by individuals aiming to exploit agency employees for information about our protective operations,” said Deputy Director Quinn to the New York Post.
The disclosure comes just one week after a 26-year-old Ohio man was arrested for allegedly smashing windows at Vice President Vance’s Cincinnati home, hours after the second family had departed for Washington, adding urgency to concerns about operational security surrounding senior officials.
