Pittsburgh Man Pleads Guilty to Attempted Murder of DEA Agent
A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent was conducting an investigation in 2024 when he came under attack by a man in Pittsburgh.
Now the suspect has pleaded guilty.
Police say Drew Gordon fired 18 rounds at the DEA agent’s vehicle while the agent was conducting surveillance for an unrelated investigation on the street where Gordon lived. According to prosecutors, Gordon felt that the agent was getting too close to his drug stash, so he began following the agent.
When the agent started to leave the area, Gordon continued to follow him and opened fire. The agent was not hit but the vehicle was hit multiple times.
Later that night, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) executed a search warrant at Gordon’s home, recovering over $37,000 worth of fentanyl, crack cocaine, and powder cocaine, $10,000 in cash, and two guns including the one used in the shooting.
“Assault on a federal officer is an assault on everyone who takes an oath to protect our communities. This kind of violence directly threatens the safety of our partners,” said FBI Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Richard Evanchec.
Gordon pleaded guilty to attempted murder and assault of a federal agent, drug trafficking, and use of a firearm in connection with those crimes. He faces a minimum of 20 years to a maximum of life in prison when he’s sentenced in December.
“The message here is clear; if you shoot at one of our Special Agents, we will find you, arrest you, and bring you to justice,” said DEA Philadelphia Division Special Agent in Charge Timothy S. Flaherty.
The FBI led the investigation with assistance from the DEA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), as well as Pennsylvania state and local police.
