FLEOA National Awards 2024 Nomination

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association is soliciting nominations for the National Awards for 2024. The National Awards Committee will review every nomination that is submitted in accordance with the policy and procedures mentioned below. All nominations must be submitted online by March 31, 2025. (There will not be any exceptions to this deadline!)

Please include with the submission:

1.   A summary of the investigation/event NTE 300 words.

2.   A statement not more than 2000 words in length which describes in detail the investigation/event.

3.   Complete nominee information.

4.   All individuals being nominated for an award must have all the nominee information provided including FLEOA member number.          

5.   Please be sure to include nominee name, title, email address, and agency/organization, as appropriate, spelled out exactly as to appear on awards and in publications (if selected).

6.   For a group nomination, please list all names of members in the group in the nominee field and provide the information as mentioned above.

            

Incomplete submissions will result in forfeiture of the nomination.

Award Categories and Criteria:

Heroism Award – Recipients must be a federal law enforcement officer and/or a state, county or local law enforcement officer affiliated with a federal task force who displayed unwavering courage in the face of adversity. The actions must have taken place in 2024.

Investigative Excellence Award – Recipients must be a member in good standing of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association whose actions led to the arrest and successful prosecution of a subject which caused significant impact by thwarting the criminal enterprise or the exposure of a major criminal conspiracy. The actions must have been completed through prosecution in 2024. 

Group Achievement Award – Recipients must be groups of three or more agents/officers who together conducted a particularly noteworthy investigation or other law enforcement achievement that came to prosecution in 2024. At least 50% of nominees must be FLEOA members to receive this award.

Prosecutorial Award – Recipients must have secured conviction(s) of notorious criminal(s) in the face of formidable obstacles through untiring effort and who are working with federal law enforcement officers to do so. The convictions must be completed in 2024. Nominees must be prosecutors. 

Community Service Award - Recipients must be a Federal Law Enforcement Officer Association member in good standing who served their community in 2024 in a noteworthy way in the advancement and betterment of law enforcement.

Special Event Award – Recipients must be a Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association member in good standing whose participation in a special event, in 2024, is worthy of recognition.

State, County, Local or Special Police Investigative Award – Recipients must be affiliated with a federal task force whose efforts have made his or her department utilize effective methods in dealing with criminal activity. The actions must have been completed through prosecution in 2024.

The Bob Van Etten Legacy of Honor Award – In recognition of one’s selfless dedication to FLEOA and federal law enforcement, and their sustained sacrifice and service in support of FLEOA’s mantra, “Don’t Go It Alone;” the nominee must be an active member of FLEOA; must serve in a volunteer capacity and not be compensated for their service; must have served in a volunteer leadership position for a minimum of ten years; must have contributed substantial time in advancing the FLEOA mission, with uncompromised distinguished service; must be voted in favor by a majority of the Board of Directors, which includes both those elected and appointed to serve on the board; must be nominated by a Board member or a member of the Awards Committee, and submitted to the National Secretary for distribution to the Board; the Board may recognize and select one nominee each year for this prestigious award, if no suitable nominees are submitted, the Board is not required to make a selection; the award will be presented at the FLEOA National Awards Banquet, and the award recipient will receive the same courtesies as other award recipients invited to the National Awards Banquet.


Award Guidance 

The Heroism and Bob Van Etten Legacy of Honor Awards will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the National Convention in October 2025 unless otherwise specified by the Awards Committee. Invited award recipients and one guest of the recipient’s choice will be FLEOA’s honored guests. All travel within the United States will be paid for by FLEOA.

All other award category recipients will receive their awards at either a local chapter event or at an event arranged by the agency president for the predominant agency involved in the award submission.

For groups of ten or fewer nominees: one award will be presented to each recipient. 

For groups of eleven or greater: one award or plaque will be presented to the group of recipients, and a framed certificate will be presented to each recipient.

No more than three award submissions (group or individual) will be chosen to receive awards per award category.
