White House Bans Feds from Talking to Press, Posting on Social Media

Reports emerged recently that President Donald Trump’s administration blocked EPA employees from posting on social media or speaking to reporters. A similar ban was reported over the weekend regarding Interior Department staff.

When asked about the reports, White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, said the White house is “looking into it.”

“I don’t know. That story literally is breaking as we were entering the briefing room,” Spicer told reporters.

The Interior Department was told to shut down its Twitter account Friday after the National Park Service retweeted a photo comparing crowd sizes of Trump and former President Barack Obama’s inauguration crowd sizes, as well as a tweet that the White House website had scrubbed mentions of climate change, civil rights and health care, reports Politico. The ban was lifted over the weekend.

“My understanding is that because they had inappropriately violated their own social media policies, there was guidance that was put out to the department to act in compliance with the rules that were set forth,” Spicer said.

Spicer also added it should come as no surprise that policies will be reviewed and changed with the introduction of a new administration.
