FOIA Request Unearths NSA Posters from the 1950’s, ‘60’s, and ‘70’s

A Freedom of Information Act request filed by the organization Government Attic unearthed an unusual goldmine of retro posters used by the National Security Agency in the 1950’s and 1960’s to hammer home a common theme: security.

The posters – akin to the famous “Loose Lips Might Sink Ships” poster that encouraged Americans to think carefully about what information they shared (and with whom) during wartime – encouraged NSA employees to remain vigilant, whether at home with their children, speaking to their  mothers, or communicating with their partners.

The full PDF released by the NSA in response to the FOIA request contains more than 130 posters. Several examples of the posters are included below:
