President Grants Feds Christmas Eve Half Day

President Obama issued an Executive Order granting federal employees an excused half day on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24th.

Those working in positions of national security, defense, and other positions of public need may not be eligible for the early release, dependent on a determination from their agency head.

Employees previously scheduled to take leave on December 24th will not be charged leave for the last half of the scheduled workday, according to a guidance memo from OPM Acting Director Beth Cobert.

Employees who have scheduled “use or lose” annual leave for the last half of the 24th and who are unable to reschedule that leave before the end of the leave year (January 9, 2016) will see that leave forfeited.
