DHS Updates National Terrorism Advisory System

Following recent terror attacks in Paris and San Bernardino, this week the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued an update to the National Terrorism Advisory System (NTAS).

The update is “designed to more effectively communicate information about terrorist threats by providing timely, detailed information to the American public,” according to a DHS press release announcing the update.

DHS is adding an NTAS “Bulletin” to the existing system for issuing NTAS “Alerts.”

The NTAS Bulletins will provide information on broader and more general trends related to threats of terrorism, and serve as a mechanism to share terrorism-related information with the public and other stakeholders.

FAQs about the new NTAS Bulletins are available here, and a sheet describing all the types of NTAS bulletins and alerts is available here
