ATF Trains Caribbean Firearms Examiners
In late July the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) held its first graduation for the Caribbean firearms examiners class at the ATF National Laboratory Center.
Participants in the 12-week forensics course included members of Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) program countries.
The participants were taught intelligence gathering techniques, instruction and training on weapons and ammunition identification, documentation to facilitate firearms and explosives traces, and current trends in firearms, among other topics.
Through the CBSI, ATF leads U.S. efforts, in partnership with the State Department and CBSI program countries, to combat illicit firearms trafficking in the Caribbean Basin nations of the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Anguilla and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Barbados.
