The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) is the largest non-partisan, professional association, representing exclusively federal law enforcement officers. FLEOA's membership consists of more than 25,000 federal agents from over 65 different federal law enforcement agencies. Founded in 1977, FLEOA is a volunteer organization. Its National Officers are all active duty federal law enforcement officers who volunteer their time to further the goals of FLEOA and the federal law enforcement community. Then and now, FLEOA's primary tenet is Don't Go it Alone. As such, it offers its active members legal assistance for job-related incidents. FLEOA also provides a legislative voice for the federal law enforcement community by monitoring legislative issues that may impact federal law enforcement officers, and by encouraging its membership to contact their elected officials to express their concerns. FLEOA has a notable list of legislative achievements: passage of The Badge of Bravery, which was signed into law on July 31, 2008. FLEOA'S membership has also been instrumental in increasing the death benefits for federal law enforcement officers; increasing premium pay for 1811's to 25% of a criminal investigators actual grade; passage of Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) in 1994; extending LEAP for Special Agents of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in 1998; passage of the Degan Bill, which provides scholarships for spouses and children of those killed in the line of duty; passage of the Federal LEO Good Samaritan Act; and passage of the Congressional Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement. FLEOA'S current legislative activity is focused on law enforcement disability reform, FERS Sick Leave Equity Act, removal of LEAP from the paycap, and the fair implementation of the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act.
