The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA)
fleoa.org

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) is the largest non-partisan, professional association, representing exclusively federal law enforcement officers. FLEOA's membership consists of more than 25,000 federal agents from over 65 different federal law enforcement agencies.

Founded in 1977, FLEOA is a volunteer organization. Its National Officers are all active duty federal law enforcement officers who volunteer their time to further the goals of FLEOA and the federal law enforcement community.

Then and now, FLEOA's primary tenet is Don't Go it Alone. As such, it offers its active members legal assistance for job-related incidents. FLEOA also provides a legislative voice for the federal law enforcement community by monitoring legislative issues that may impact federal law enforcement officers, and by encouraging its membership to contact their elected officials to express their concerns.

FLEOA has a notable list of legislative achievements: passage of The Badge of Bravery, which was signed into law on July 31, 2008. FLEOA'S membership has also been instrumental in increasing the death benefits for federal law enforcement officers; increasing premium pay for 1811's to 25% of a criminal investigators actual grade; passage of Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) in 1994; extending LEAP for Special Agents of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in 1998; passage of the Degan Bill, which provides scholarships for spouses and children of those killed in the line of duty; passage of the Federal LEO Good Samaritan Act; and passage of the Congressional Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement.

FLEOA'S current legislative activity is focused on law enforcement disability reform, FERS Sick Leave Equity Act, removal of LEAP from the paycap, and the fair implementation of the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act.

FEDagent's readers also span the federal law enforcement community. With our shared interests, FEDagent.com has joined forces with FLEOA to offer all of our readers news and insight directly from the federal law enforcement community's premiere member association. If you're interested in hearing it directly from FLEOA's National President, look for FLEOA's quarterly column here at FEDagent.

FEDagent.com is the recipient of FLEOA's 2006 National Media Award.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF)
nleomf.org

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) generates increased public support for the law enforcement profession by permanently recording and appropriately commemorating the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers; and to provide information that will help promote law enforcement safety.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, completed in 1991, is located in Washington, D.C., occupying Judiciary Square, and is visited by 200,000 people annually. The Memorial honors federal, state and local law enforcers for their dedication and sacrifice and features bronze sculptures depicting a series of adult lions protecting its cubs, symbolizing the protective role of law enforcement officers. Blue-gray marble walls are inscribed with the names of more than 18,000 officers who have been killed in the line of duty (dating back to 1792). Each May, during National Police Week new names of fallen officers are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

In the year 2000, the United States Congress and President Bill Clinton authorized the establishment of a National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, DC, paving the way for the nation's largest and most comprehensive museum honoring the duty and sacrifice of America's law enforcement officers. The Museum plans are for a 90,000-square foot underground facility near the Memorial which will tell the story of American law enforcement through interactive exhibits, collections, research and education.

In addition to securing Congressional authority and federal land to build the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and the National Law Enforcement Museum, the NLEOMF successfully advocated for federal laws that: require all American flags to be lowered to half-staff each year on May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day, and authorized the US Mint to issue 500,000 National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Commemorative Silver Dollars, to raise approximately $1.5 million in proceeds for maintenance and repair of the Memorial.

FEDagent.com is pleased to have the NLEOMF as an Honorary Sponsor of its E-Report! Look for our regular updates about NLEOMF activities, including Police Week and the progress of the Museum, here at FEDagent.com.
